INTRODUCCIÓN:

One of the biggest concerns couples from the mainland have about a destination wedding in Puerto Rico is the unknown. What time should the ceremony start? How long does hair and makeup really take? When is the best light for portraits? After photographing hundreds of weddings across this island, I can tell you exactly what a perfect Puerto Rico wedding day looks like — and how to make every moment count.

8:00 AM — GETTING READY

The morning of your wedding sets the tone for everything that follows. I always recommend starting hair and makeup earlier than you think necessary — Puerto Rico's tropical climate means humidity is a real factor, and your team will need time to work with it. This is also one of my favorite times to photograph — the quiet moments, the details, the emotions before the day truly begins. Budget at least 3-4 hours for the full bridal party.

11:00 AM — DETAIL SHOTS & FLAT LAYS

While the final touches are happening, my team begins capturing all the details — the dress, the rings, the shoes, the bouquet, the invitation suite. These images tell the story of your day before it even begins. If you've invested in beautiful details, make sure your photographer has dedicated time to capture them properly.

12:00 PM — FIRST LOOK

I strongly recommend a first look for destination wedding couples — and here's why. Seeing each other privately before the ceremony gives you a genuine, unguarded reaction that is impossible to stage. It also allows us to complete your couple portraits before the ceremony, so you can enjoy your cocktail hour with your guests instead of disappearing for photos.

1:00 PM — COUPLE PORTRAITS

Puerto Rico's midday light can be harsh and unflattering — which is exactly why knowing your locations is critical. As a local photographer, I know exactly which shaded corners of Old San Juan, which beachside spots, and which venue gardens offer beautiful light at every hour. We'll use this time efficiently so your portraits feel relaxed, not rushed.

3:00 PM — CEREMONY

For outdoor ceremonies in Puerto Rico, late afternoon is ideal. The temperature begins to drop slightly, the light softens, and your guests are comfortable. If your ceremony is on the beach, aim for no later than 5:00 PM to catch the golden hour light immediately after.

4:30 PM — COCKTAIL HOUR

While your guests enjoy cocktails and appetizers, we'll steal 15-20 minutes for any remaining portraits — especially if your venue has a rooftop, a garden, or a cliffside view that catches the late afternoon light beautifully. This is often when the most magical images of the day happen.

5:30 PM — GOLDEN HOUR PORTRAITS

This is the moment every photographer lives for. Puerto Rico's golden hour — that 30-45 minute window before sunset — produces light that no filter can replicate. Warm, soft, cinematic. If your timeline allows for nothing else, protect this window. The images we create here will be the ones you frame and pass down.

6:00 PM — RECEPTION

First dances, toasts, dinner, cake cutting, and the celebration that brings everything together. I recommend scheduling your most important reception moments — first dance, parent dances, toasts — within the first 90 minutes while your guests are still energized and the emotion is highest.

9:00 PM — GRAND EXIT OR LAST DANCE

End your night with intention. Whether it's a sparkler exit, a lantern release on the beach, or a private last dance under the stars — Puerto Rico's warm nights create a perfect backdrop for a closing moment that is as cinematic as everything that came before it.

CLOSING —

Every wedding day is different — and the best timelines are built around your specific venue, your guest count, and your vision. As your photographer, I work with you and your planner months in advance to build a timeline that protects every important moment and leaves room for the unexpected.

Because in Puerto Rico, the unexpected is often the most beautiful thing of all.
